Stamp Carving :: a mini tutorial

I was really in the mood

 to carve some botanical stamps the other day, 

ones to use to make repeat patterns in my journals...

 or for cards, bookmarks, etc.

There are lots more great tutorials out there

but feel free to ask me any questions.

Carving Out Trust

I needed my Word on a stamp, but didn't have one, so...

I've been in the mood to carve a new stamp or two anyway

and this is as good a time as any

and it's fun. Really fun.

Stamping in my journal

will come next.

Searching...a Process

Below, the unplanned process:

white gesso,

3 colors of acrylic paint,

white acrylic paint on my handcarved poppy pod stamp:

"Searching..." handwritten with a white Sharpie Paint Marker:

I Don't Know Why...

...I don't do this more often.

 Got materials together and doodled my design.

 Rubbed design onto Mastercarve Block, using my fingertip/nail.

 Began carving

...changing my mind as I went along.

At first, I thought I wanted just 2 shapes,

with dots around the perimeter.

 Then, decided I could always cut away more later

because I wanted 3 shapes, and scallops around the outside.

I LOVE the color, cerulean blue,

instead of always using black ink.

This is fun,

gives me a new original stamp for my journal pages,

and helps me to embrace my imperfections.

All good.

Carving a Stamp

Rainy Saturdays are good days to avoid excess housework...

and carve a simple branch instead.
