This big guy (about 1 1/2") was in my flower barrel getting his lunch. He was kind enough to stick around so I could get my camera...but what is he? The consensus right now is that it's a moth, but at first I thought it was a bee, then a small hummingbird (because he has a nozzle nose!). It flew in midair for ten minutes to drink out of every purple petunia. Very Cool. Very unusual. If you know the name, feel free and please do tell!

Oh my gosh Kathy, I have no idea... maybe a moth? But it's crazy that you posted this, because I saw a dragonfly the other day with a red body and yellow wings... first time ever to see one colored that way... so pretty though too!
Have no idea what it is except its colourings are wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
It's definately a moth but not sure what type. Very awesome!!! Some type of Luna moth?

Ooo yes we saw lots of these beautiful moths in France recently, they look just like little humming birds sipping nectar from all the lovely flowers. Apparently they are beginning to appear in the south of England now, too, so I hope they make it to my little garden one day.
