Watercolor Learning

I have wanted, for the longest time, to learn how to paint with watercolors. I finally took the scary-for-me leap. I bought a really inexpensive set, a couple of brushes, and now a course!

I have only begun to practice with supplies, but have learned a bit about what I don't like, for instance, this paper, with or without gesso. I won't experiment in this journal anymore, but will use the watercolor paper pad that I got for my birthday. I also learned that I think I will like watercolor painting and it may not be as scary as I thought...maybe.

Thanks for visiting and putting up with my frightening experiments. I love your comments.  ~k

Your watercolor looks really good! I can't wait to see more. Also am so impressed with your sketch. I think my Claire would have been happier of you drew her. Maybe you could make a small mini watercolor book with your watercolor paper and when you finish it send it to Stampington. Have a great week and feel better.

Oh my word Kath - I have just blogged about exactly this....starting with watercolours! I'm finding it scary as I usually don't use anything as subtle. I need to do a course too.
These first attempts by you are really lovely. Love the Greens!
Hope you have a happy week.

I haven't painted watercolor in years, but it really is a lot of fun once you develop a technique for it... the beauty is that you can use really thick brush strokes, or watered down ones, and they both turn out really nicely... have fun!

kathy, what great watercoloring!!!! how exciting. i firmly believe in order to enjoy watercolor, you must paint on good paper. i learned this once when i forgot my paper on a trip. i borrowed paper from a fellow artist. all of my paintings were horrible and i was not happy. i realized the paper was not taking my paint like i am use to. my favorite paper is arches 140lb cold press. good luck!!!!
